The Black Dress Challenge is On!

Day 7Hi, you may remember my post about The Black Dress Challenge. Loosely based on Courtney Carver’s Project 333, The Black Dress Challenge is my attempt to simplify my life by wearing the same washable black dress every day for a month.

I want to let you know that the challenge is on! I’d love to know if you are participating in a minimalist fashion challenge this month.  Please let me know in a comment, below.  If you are doing a challenge, I wish you great success!

And if The Black Dress Challenge sparks your interest, please share this post with your tribe.  Thank you!

  1. Christianna, I love your “little black dress” and every one of your ensemble’s look great. I know this is about less rather than more and I shouldn’t be reading this and thinking of shopping…lol…but could you share where you got your dress. or the label? It’s interesting ’cause I’ve just been thinking recently that my wardrobe was missing a little black dress and then I came across your site. I would never have thought of adapting it in all the ways you’ve done and this is just day 8! Love what you’re doing!

  2. Thank you, Kate 🙂

Regarding the dress, you ask an interesting question. You see, I bought the dress a couple of years ago at a little boutique in the Pearl district of Portland, OR that has since shut its doors. I can’t remember the name of the boutique, but I can tell you the label of the dress: Dervish.

A recent Google search led me to the Dervish website. The Dervish label is created by a lovely young Portland designer with a great aesthetic and understanding of fabric, beauty, and functionality. Here is a link to her website:

While I don’t see the dress in her current collection, maybe we can ask her nicely if she would consider putting it back into rotation. I seriously heart this dress (we’ll see how I feel at day 31!) and I would love to get a replacement for when I wear out my current version.

I wish I could have a more definitive answer for you, Kate. Thanks so much for stopping by!

  3. I didn’t realize you were going to keep posting on this blog too! That’s a beautiful dress!

I am participating in Project 333 sponsored by Three months, 33 items of clothing.

  4. DRESS ENVY!! Your black dress is so much cooler than mine. And even more I have SHOE ENVY!! And still more I have HAIR ENVY!! My poor hair has been falling out waaaaaaaaahhhhhhh 🙁

Apart from that life is perfect ;D You look so damned cute in your dress a la mode. Haven’t taken any pics of myself in my 33 things wardrobe but gotta do at least one someday. I thought the weather would be in the 60’s by now but it’s in the 80’s and I have more sweaters than t-shirts. Also, the warm weather means outdoor maintenance jobs that we didn’t get to when it was 95 and swampy, but of course I didn’t plan for painting clothes. Do you think, given the way it’s panning out so far, that I’ll get invited to a ballroom event at which I will be the guest of honor, precisely because I haven’t planned any sort of outfit for that unlikely occasion?

  5. Hey, Willow, yes, I’m still posting here 🙂

That’s great that you’re participating in Courtney’s Project 333. Hers was actually the inspiration behind my own challenge. How’s the Project been going for you?

  6. Lol, Meg! You crack me up!

Yes, at this rate, a formal black-tie event in your honor is clearly in your future. And I want to see some pics!

  7. Christianna, I also didn’t plan for the cooler temperatures. It was so hot last week, I chose too many t shirts and had nothing to wear as a ‘layer’ in the house. Fortunately, I had left three spots open on my 33 so I was able to add a pull over fleece top. I’m posting about Project 333 at the simplepleasures blog I share with my two daughters.

  8. Christianna,

You’re so cute! I don’t know why you’d be camera shy. I’m near your sons’ ages, and you are ten times as photogenic! 🙂

What a great dress. It’s definitely a good one for this project. Good luck!

  9. Dusti, you’re waaa-aay to kind! And thank you 🙂

  10. Willow, this transitional fall weather definitely adds an extra element of challenge to the project. Thanks for the update, and good luck!
